The opening hole is a medium length par 5 playing downhill and into the prevailing wind. The tee shot plays from a high point on "the ridge" down 35 to 40 feet to a landing area framed by fairway bunkers. From that point, the hole doglegs slightly to the left with the second shot layup guarded by bunkers on the right and greenside bunkers on the left front and behind. The hole will be reachable on some days, particularly to the longer hitter, but the lake on the right will become much more into play on the second shot as opposed to the third shot from the layup area. The green itself will easily accept dead aim third shots and be somewhat conducive to birdie attempts on all hole locations.
